My path to bookkeeping and accounting has been shaped as much by life experience as by formal education. Originally from North Carolina, I moved to Mount Vernon, Washington in 2006 with my husband and our three kids. I quickly fell in love with the scenery, the pace of life, and the strong sense of community.  Washington has been home ever since.

I earned my Accounting degree from Skagit Valley College in 2014, and shortly after, I began working for a local small business accounting firm. That experience taught me far more than technical skills. It showed me how important balance is—between accuracy and compassion, and between taking care of others and taking care of yourself. Those lessons stayed with me and ultimately led me to start Porter Bookkeeping and Accounting.

I built this business because I believe small business owners deserve clean, understandable, tax-ready books at a cost they can afford, without feeling overwhelmed or talked down to. I enjoy working with startups and established businesses alike, helping them feel confident in their numbers and supported as they grow. While I primarily work in QuickBooks Online, I’m comfortable working with a variety of accounting software and helping clients find systems they’re genuinely comfortable using. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide range of industries, from agriculture to woodworking, and I value the unique story behind every business I support.

Outside of work, I’m someone who values slowing down and staying grounded. I enjoy spending time in my garden, playing with my three dogs, traveling when I can, and being with my family—especially here in Washington, where connection to nature and community is part of everyday life. Those moments outside the office shape the calm, consistent, and thoughtful approach I bring to my work and to the relationships I build with clients.
